Within the framework of International Women’s Day, we recognize the contribution, effort and achievements of the role of women in the marine conservation of our ocean.<\/h4>\n

The management of marine resources on a planet where 70% of the planet’s surface is covered by the oceans requires great and challenging coordination efforts and continuous work.<\/p>\n

Human beings have developed skills and tools, which, when used well, become an example to follow for future generations. Likewise, over time, the diverse and proactive participation of different actors and communities in environmental issues is the product of a vision where thousands of men and women have assumed and implemented with leadership and vocation initiatives that have made this world a better place, even if sometimes it does not seem so.<\/p>\n<\/div>

\"Faico<\/a><\/span><\/div>

In March, March 8 was commemorated, again a more emphatic recognition of the role of women in different areas, so Faico joined this initiative considering the different contributions and roles that these guardians from their field of action and the ocean have carried out.<\/p>\n

“A few months ago I had the opportunity to receive a group of parliamentarians from the British Embassy, where several NGOs and actors developed an exchange of experiences, and as something very genuine from this meeting, one of the diplomats said “Wooow… I am sitting with at least 8 organizations and their leaders are women, “Is Amazing”, commented Alejandra Villalobos, Executive Director of Faico, this being one of the ideas that promoted and consolidated the “Ocean Women” campaign.<\/p>\n

With great pride we developed a series of questions and quick identification of possible candidates, managing to add xxx women willing to participate, including fishermen, researchers, directors of ons, park rangers, doctors, heads of household, lawyers, leaders in administration and commerce issues, among others, considering that all of them had an exciting story to tell about their relationship or special feeling with the ocean and Cocos Island.<\/p>\n<\/div>

The ocean is as vast as the role that women have contributed to this ecosystem that is so important for the planet, consolidating and not competing with the important work that countless men have successfully developed for years and centuries, promoting a joint and more equitable trajectory.<\/p>\n

We cannot get away from the reality that there is still much work to be done to increase women’ \u00a0s leadership and participation<\/a>, end violence against women<\/a>, involve women in all aspects of peace and security processes<\/a>, enhance \u00a0women’s economic empowerment<\/a>, and make gender equality central to women’s empowerment. planning and national budgeting<\/a> for development, as evidenced and promoted by organizations such as UN Women, through its United Nations Member States.<\/p>\n

Faico is very grateful to all those women who joined the campaign, this was a precious and motivating gift for our organization, since FAICO on May 13, 2024, will celebrate 30 years of history and developing this initiative allows us to see that our collaborators have also made invaluable contributions to the conservation and protection of Cocos Island and adjacent ecosystems.<\/p>\n
