Its work has been fundamental in the management of Cocos Island National Park, the largest one in Costa Rica and Central America.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Tuesday, May 14, 2024.<\/b> Within the framework of its 30th anniversary, FAICO celebrates its countless contributions in favor of the conservation and management of Cocos Island National Park and its surrounding ecosystems, thus being consolidated once again as <b>one of the strategic partners with the longest history and cooperation activities for the \u201cmost beautiful island in the world\u201d,<\/b>which is proudly Costa Rican and essential to the planet.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>To date, <b>FAICO&#8217;s cooperation is estimated at approximately $500,000 annually<\/b>, thanks to projects, initiatives, and the proactive work of its dedicated staff.<\/p>\n<\/div><p style=\"text-align: center;\"><iframe src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?height=314&href=https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/isladelcoco.faico\/videos\/986032139558696\/&show_text=false&width=560&t=7\" width=\"560\" class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><div><b>65% of the infrastructure used by park rangers, volunteers, and researchers in the national park is the result of projects promoted by FAICO with different partners.<\/b>The positioning, recognition, and obtaining of the declaration of Cocos Island National Park (CINP) as a <b><a href=\"https:\/\/cocosisland.org\/en\/cocos-island-world-heritage\/\">UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997<\/a><\/b> and a <b><a href=\"https:\/\/cocosisland.org\/en\/cocos-island-decared-blue-park\/\">Global Ocean Refuge \u2013 Blue Park in 2018<\/a>are among the great achievements of FAICO along its background-color: var(--awb-bg-color-hover);\"> for Costa Rica to go from 2.7% to 31% of conservation and protection of its marine ecosystems, thanks to <\/span><span style=\"color: var(--awb-text-color); font-family: var(--awb-text-font-family); font-size: var(--awb-font-size); font-style: var(--awb-text-font-style); letter-spacing: var(--awb-letter-spacing); text-transform: var(--awb-text-transform); background-color: var(--awb-bg-color-hover);\"><b><a href=\"https:\/\/cocosisland.org\/en\/government-signs-decrete-to-expand-cocos-island\/\">the expansion achieved in December 2021<\/a>of Cocos Island National Park to 54,844 km\u00b2 and to the creation of the Bicentennial Marine Management Area (BMMA), which measures 106,283 km\u00b2.<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-18081 alignright\" of FAICO is the result of a proactive and coordinated work with authorities such as the <b>National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC), the Cocos Marine Conservation Area (ACMC),<\/b> and other government institutions, together with a large number of local, regional, and international organizations, which under a common purpose, channel human, technical, and financial resources, consolidating <b>a model of cooperation that has inspired marine conservation at a global level,\u201d<\/b>explained Alejandra Villalobos, Executive Director of guardians of this natural treasure, which is why it created the <b><a href=\"https:\/\/cocosisland.org\/en\/quality-life-of-park-rangers-cocos-island\/\">\u201cPark Rangers Quality of Life Program\u201d<\/a>, <\/b>which has provided essential equipment and supplies for the work that for many years these employees have carried out in the Pacific Ocean, 532 km away from the mainland of Costa Rica, aside from their participation in national and international forums. <b>These spaces have allowed them to participate and position their work and the importance of Cocos Island in our country and abroad.<\/b>.  <\/p>\n<p>The<b>Cocos Island National Park has more than 2,600 species of flora and fauna.
