In the new episode of the podcast “The Island and its Voices,” we spoke with Katty Conejo, the first woman to take on a decision-making position for Cocos Island National Park, when she was appointed Deputy Manager in 2005.
A native of Tilarán, Katty Conejo is a marine biologist. She was a sea turtle researcher and volunteer coordinator with the Association of Volunteers for Service in Protected Areas, a researcher at WideCast, and she has worked in the tourism sector.
Within the framework of International Women’s Day, we delved into the role of women in marine conservation and the challenges they face, as well as the progress that has been made in recent years.
«I think that women are now more recognized and given more merit. The more visible our work is, the more people will have access to know and admire them,” Katty said of the advances in the last 20 years.
